The picturesque Classic Golf & Country Club will host the IGU All India Mid-Amateurs and Seniors Championship

The IGU All India Mid-Amateurs and Seniors Championship is set to take place from July 22-25 at the Classic Golf & Country Club in Haryana, with India’s top amateur golfers aged 35 and above expected to compete for national honours in what may prove to be a decisive selection event for upcoming international representation. The timing and format of this year’s championship have taken on added significance, as both the APGC Senior Amateur Championship and the newly introduced APGC Mid-Amateur Championship are scheduled later this year, with Vietnam tentatively set to host the senior event in November, and Jakarta, Indonesia, already confirmed as the venue for the inaugural mid-amateur edition from August 12-14.

The APGC Mid-Amateur Championship, a new addition to the Asia-Pacific calendar, is aimed at filling a critical competitive gap by providing international opportunities for amateur golfers aged 25 and above. Scheduled to be played over 54 holes at the Gading Raya Golf Club near Jakarta, the tournament features four distinct age categories starting from 25–29 and extending to 47 and above. In parallel, the APGC Senior Championship, expected in Vietnam later this year, will continue its longstanding tradition of showcasing the region’s top senior amateurs over age 55. India has historically fielded a strong team in this event, including multiple-time representative Gangesh Khaitan, who secured a commanding nine-stroke victory in the 65+ category at last year’s All India Seniors in Noida.

Last year’s All India Championship saw standout performances from Sandeep Sandhu, who claimed the Seniors title at Noida Golf Club despite challenging course conditions, and Ranjit Singh, who defended his Mid-Amateur crown.

While formal selection criteria are yet to be announced, the shift in scheduling, the proximity to APGC dates, and the heightened stakes surrounding this year’s All India Mid-Amateurs and Seniors Championship suggest that performances in this event may well carry implications beyond the leaderboard. For India’s seasoned amateurs looking to represent the country on the international stage, this will be a week that matters—not only in title terms, but potentially as the gateway to a broader Asia-Pacific journey.
