Chandigarh’s star of the AVT Champions’ Tour, Sandeep Sandhu was the joint winner at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation’s (APGC) Senior Amateur Championship in Manila, which was played over 36 holes after torrential rain from Typhoon Opong forced cancellation of the 3rd and final round.

The 60-year-old former Chandigarh Golf Club president posted back-to-back 70s at Orchard Golf & Country Club for a four-under par 140 total, sharing the men’s overall crown with Korea’s defending champion Heo Ji-baek. Sandhu won the 60–64 age division by nine shots.

One of India’s most decorated senior golfers, Sandhu holds the AVT Champions Tour record of five consecutive wins in 2024 and is the reigning All India Seniors and 2023 Hong Kong Seniors champion.

India finished third in the team event at 449 (226-223), led by Sandhu’s 70-70 alongside David D’Souza (79-72), Gaurav Ghosh (77-81) and Amandeep Singh Bajwa (90-84). In the individual age categories, Gangesh Khaitan captured the 70-and-over title with 82-78, 11 shots clear of runner-up Lakshman Singh (85-86).

Australia retained both men’s and women’s team crowns, but the week belonged to Sandhu, whose steady play and growing international résumé highlight India’s rising profile in senior amateur golf across Asia.
