Anshul Mishra becomes only the third Indian to register a top-10 finish at AAC
India’s Anshul Mishra capped a memorable week with a tied-seventh finish at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at the Majilis Course of the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.
The tournament winner gets an invitation to play The Masters and The Open championship – an incredible prize to shoot for.
The 17-year-old carded consistent rounds of 72, 69, 68, and 70 to finish at 9-under 279, becoming only the third Indian to record a top-10 finish in the event’s history. The others were Khalin Joshi (T-9, 2010) and Indian origin UAE resident, Rayhan Thomas (T-2, 2018) since the championship began in 2009.
Out of the five Indians in the field, four made the cut – the best performance by the Indian contingent . Raghav Gulati finished T-27 at 1-over 289 (73-70-71-75), followed by Rakshit Dahiya at T-42 (7-over 295) after rounds of 72-72-74-77, and Ranveer Mitroo at T-48 (10-over 298) with scores of 74-71-77-76. Harman Sachdeva, meanwhile, missed the cut by two strokes at 8-over 152 (79-73).
The championship was won by Thailand’s Fifa Laopakdee, a second year student at Arizona State University in USA, who rallied from a six-shot deficit to force a playoff against Taisei Nagasaki of Japan, eventually winning on the third extra hole with three consecutive birdies, to claim the highly sought after AAC title.
