No elections at IGU AGM as office bearers continue

Indian Golf Union Office Bearers and Council Members after the 65th Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, on December 11, 2025

The Indian Golf Union (IGU) held its 65th Annual General Meeting in New Delhi without conducting an election, allowing its current office bearers to continue in charge as the governing body.

In what appears to be a statement in support of the attending representatives from 15 State Golf Associations, including Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the IGU declared it would turn attention to developing the game in India’s  North East.

IGU President Brijinder Singh, from Mumbai,  said expanding the sport in the region is now a key priority, describing it as an “uncharted territory” with untapped potential.

With no voting held this year, Singh, Honorary Secretary Shashank Sandu, Honorary Treasurer Sanjeev Rattan and Director General Maj Gen (Retd) Bibhuti Bhushan will continue in their respective roles, alongside governing council members such as North East chairman Nagesh Singh.

Routine agenda items — adoption of the annual report and audited accounts, confirmation of minutes, and appointment of auditors — were cleared smoothly. The meeting also included a tribute to former IGU president, the late Prakash Bhandari.

Singh said IGU will work with the “Seven Sisters” states to strengthen grassroots, junior and high-performance programs, sending coaches and equipment to local associations, and exploring the tourism value of the region’s scenic, colonial-era layouts.

In 2024–25, the IGU conducted 32 domestic events, 48 feeder tournaments and sent Indian teams to 15 international competitions, including the Paris Olympics. The federation also hosted its first R&A Level 3 tournament officiating seminar, producing 65 certified referees, and delivered an upgraded Hero Indian Open with a US$2.5 million purse.
