In the wake of the upgraded CIDCO golf course in Navi Mumbai, now another upgraded course is announced – this time in Mangalore. The Pilikula Golf Course was formally inaugurated in its fully upgraded status on January 9, 2026, giving Mangaluru a rare, world-class floodlit golfing facility on India’s west coast.
The newly renovated layout is an 18-hole, par-72 course measuring 6,747 yards,at Vamanjoor. First developed in 1999 on barren laterite land, the course was built modestly at the start. By 2011, it was upgraded somewhat but then the goal shifted to building a top-tier sporting venue for a city that was lagging behind in infrastructure.
That push led to a complete redesign by Australia-based Pacific Coast Design, aligned with international standards.
Environmental measures were built into the upgrade. While around 250 acacia trees were removed due to design changes, nearly 7,500 saplings—including 147 mango varieties and native Western Ghats species—were planted in return.
The government-owned facility was run by a joint committee, and the redevelopment was largely funded through member contributions. After closing in 2024, the upgraded course was completed within a year.
