Travel disruption caused by the ongoing military tensions in the Middle East has already impacted the Indian golf calendar and could potentially affect the upcoming European (DP World) Tour event – the US$2.55 million Hero Indian Open scheduled for March 26-29 at DLF G&CC, Gurgaon where it has been held since 2017.
The HotelPlanner Tour (previously known as the Challenge Tour), the second rung tour in Europe recently withdrew its sanctioning of the US$300,000 Indorama Ventures Open, a join event with PGTI, scheduled for March 12–15 at Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club in Ahmedabad, citing the inability of foreign players and staff to travel to India.
The tour said many of its members were struggling to either depart from or transit through the Middle East, where airport closures and airspace restrictions have followed the recent military strikes involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) confirmed that the Indorama Ventures Open will still be played with its originally announced US$300,000 prize fund despite the withdrawal of HotelPlanner Tour sanctioning but is still open to any of their players who make the trip.
The next event on the swing, another US$300,000 event at Classic Golf & Country Club (March 19–22), is currently still listed on the calendar but the situation is being monitored closely.
