U.S. Club Seal Stunning Comeback To Win Prestigious Inter-Club

The victorious United Services Club

In its 23rd year, western India’s biggest inter-club golf event—Grover Vineyards Inter-club Golf Championship—saw enthusiastic support from onlookers and members from various clubs as United Services Club (USC) mounted a stirring comeback to beat Willingdon Sports Club (WSC) in a playoff. Played at United Services Golf Course from February 9-10, WSC were utterly dominant on day 1 and for half of day 2 before the home team stormed back to level the scores. In the ensuing playoff, Keshav Mishra (USC) overwhelmed Kushal Thakker (WSC) to ensure his team continued its winning streak on home turf.

Played among four teams (Bombay Presidency Golf Club and Poona Golf Club being the other two), the preparation for the two-day event started last November. 26 golfers represent each club (who have their own team colours), of which 24 play on day 1 and 21 on day 2. In an effort to level the competition in the event of one team dominating the opening day, the subsequent day’s play had a good amount of points on offer. This year’s format saw six foursomes and six fourballs on the first day and nine singles and six fourballs on the second. A very prescient move as it turned out!
