Veer is Tied-11th after 2 rounds in Austria

Gurgaon-based pro golfer Veer Ahlawat who is in dire need of confidence-building in Europe finds himself well-placed at the halfway mark of the DP World (European) Tour’s Austrian Alpine Open, sitting Tied-11th at 5-under 135 after two rounds at Gut Altentann Golf Club in Salzburg, Austria. Being played from May 29 to June 1, a good finish by Veer can boost his morale after a series of missed cuts.

The 28-year-old from Gurgaon carded rounds of 67 and 68 across the first two days on the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout, placing him six strokes behind current leader Marcel Schneider of Germany, who leads the field at 11-under-par with scores of 63 and 66.

This is Veer’s 11th DPWT start this season, where he earned full playing privileges after topping the PGTI’s 2024 Rankings. Prior to this week, he made only five cuts in ten starts with just one Top-20 finish. A top-10 finish in Salzburg would mark a crucial turnaround and provide valuable ranking points in his bid to retain his tour card for next year.

For the other Indian in the field, Chandigarh’s Shubhankar Sharma, the poor run of form seems to persist with rounds of 73 and 71 that saw him miss the cut at 4-over 144. This marks Sharma’s 9th missed cut in 13 starts this season, and his fifth in a row, as the 27-year-old continues to struggle for rhythm and consistency.

The Austrian Alpine Open is the third of six tournaments in the DP World Tour’s European Swing. The return to Gut Altentann, which last hosted a tour event in 1992, has offered players relatively calm conditions allowing for low scores.
