Indian origin Megha steals the show at US Open

17 year old high school student of Indian origin, Megha Ganne stole the show at the US Women’s Open being played at the historic Olympic Country Club outside San Francisco, with a 14th place finish after being tied for the lead with a 67 on Day one.

Megha held her nerve with two more solid rounds of 71 and 72 to lie 3rd going into the final day and was in the final group with leader Lexi Thompson and eventual winner Yuka Saso, eventually shooting 77 to tied 14th and win low amateur honours.

Megha, whose parents are first generation Indian immigrants, attends school in New Jersey and is not only impressed with her solid game and calm demeanour but also how well she handled the media in daily post round interviews.

She had originally qualified for the US Open at age 15 and was also a semi finalist at the US Women’s Amateur besides winning several events on the junior circuit. She has tentatively accepted an offer from Stanford University after graduating from high school.

Talented Indian origin kids like Megha Ganne and Akshay Bhatia might give Indian fans many reasons to cheer as we follow the progress of their promising careers.
