62 year old Vijay Singh makes PGA Tour cut !

Vijay Singh impresses in his PGA Tour return

Vijay Singh’s return to the PGA Tour at 62 saw him make the cut and finish 40th at the Sony Open in Hawaii after amazing rounds of 68-70-68-69.

Singh used a rarely invoked career money exemption, available only to players inside the top 50 on the PGA Tour’s all-time earnings list, still sixth all-time with $71.2 million in earnings, the former world No. 1 exercised that option and backed it up immediately,

Compare this with other sports. Michael Jordan retired from the NBA at 40, while the league’s oldest-ever player, Nat Hickey, stepped away at 45 — both reminders of how narrow the window is in elite basketball and most other sports. Golf, by comparison, offers time.

With PGA Tour University accelerating top college players straight into Tour starts, Singh’s discipline, fitness and experience could still survive in a game increasingly built for the next generation.
