Abu Dhabi to host World Amateur Team event

Milind Soni, Rayhan Thomas and Raghav Chugh represented India at the Eisenhower Trophy in Paris 2022

The 3 member World Amateur Team Championship, known as The Eisenhower Trophy for men, will  be played from Oct. 18-21 in Abu Dhabi, followed by the Espirito Santo Trophy for Ladies from Oct. 25-28, 2023. India has competed annually in the event since the early 1970’s.

The Championships were originally set to be held in Dubai but a recent move to Abu Dhabi will see the Championships contested at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club which annually hosts the European Tour’s US$8 million HSBC Abu Dhabi championship.

This will be the first time the tournament,  started in 1958 , will be held in the Middle East and will be played on one golf course with only 36 teams.

Conducted by the International Golf Federation (formerly the World Amateur Golf Council), which comprises the national governing bodies of golf in 149 countries, the World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition.

Format

Each team has two or three players. The teams play 18-holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

The women’s competition, known as the Espirito Santo Trophy, will follow next week.
