23-year-old Bengalurean Aditi Ashok has selected her father to accompany her as coach to the Olympic golf competition.

Since the Olympics organisers have tightened the security and social norms due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian golfers are now headed to Tokyo without a team coach.

IGU’s announcement

Earlier this month, Jeev Milkha Singh as Team Leader and Nonital Lal Quereshi as Team Coach had pulled out due to their reasons. Later, IGU tried to accredit IGU Treasurer Ishwar Achanta and Lahiri and Mane’s coach Vijay Divecha through IOA. IOA citing international Rules, responded that it would allow only three personal coaches with category P, meaning the person will have its accommodation outside of the games village and access the Golf Training venue only, not the competition venue. Where Mr Achanta has declined to go due to the category of the accreditation.

IGU later wrote to three players; Anirban Lahiri, Udayan Mane and Aditi Ashok asking them to choose their coaches, where the former two declined, while Aditi chose G. Ashok, her father, as her preferred choice of a personal coach, who would be doubling as her caddie.
