Diksha proved she could handle the conditions of a major championship
India’s Diksha Dagar, who is enjoying another consistent year in Europe, showed she can handle the world’s best as she comfortably made the cut and finished 46th with rounds of 71-73-73-77 at the US$9.75 million AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl, Wales.
Diksha was tied-29th at the halfway stage and had to withstand high winds on the final day. She earned US$ 34,663 (₹ 30.3 lacs approx) to remain 12th on the LET rankings.
Diksha will now head to London for the US$ 2mn PIF London Championship at Centurion from Aug. 8-10, where she will be joined by LPGA regular Aditi Ashok, Pranavi Urs who is trying to make a comeback after an injury in the last few weeks and 18 year old rookie Avani Prashanth of Bangalore who has shown great poise in tackling European conditions this season.
24-year-old Miyu Yamashita of Japan carded rounds of 68-65-74-70 to lift her maiden major title at 11-under par, making her the second Japanese major winner this season alone, following Mao Saigo’s triumph earlier at the Chevron Championship in April.
