Bhatia sits T-7 heading into the weekend
Indian-American Akshay Bhatia, only 23, already a two-time PGA Tour winner, carded rounds of 66-67 to reach 7-under par and stand 7th after 36 holes halfway through the season-ending US$40 million PGA Tour FedEx Cup Tour Championship in Atlanta. He trails co-leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley by six shots.
Bhatia entered the week on the back of a tied-26th finish the previous week at the US$20 million BMW Championship, which saw him secure the 30th and final spot in the elite field at East Lake—the cutoff for the PGA Tour’s most exclusive event.
Among other Indian-origin players, England’s Aaron Rai finished the season ranked 55th, falling short of advancing in the playoffs, after the US$20mn FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship. While California’s Sahith Theegala, sidelined by injury, ended his campaign ranked 147th and missed the postseason altogether.
