16-year-old Charlie Woods, son of 15-time Major champion Tiger Woods, continues to show promise, having qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship for a second consecutive year.

Playing in the Boys 13–18 division, Charlie shot rounds of 74 and 69 to finish at even-par 143, placing him 6th, with his dad watching on from the galleries.

The 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur will be played from July 21–26 in Dallas, Texas and like the British Amateur, features 36 holes of Stroke Play with the top 64 players advancing to the Match Play segment.

Tiger famously won the U.S. Junior Amateur three times in a row from 1991 to 1993, launching his ascent in world golf. The shadow of his father’s legacy looms large, but Charlie continues to carve his own path.

Following Famous Footsteps
The expectations surrounding Charlie are significant, given the Woods surname, but succeeding a legend is rarely straightforward. Among golf’s famous sons, very few have followed their father’s footsteps successfully. Jack Nicklaus’s sons—Gary and Jack II— tried their hand on the PGA TOUR but never made a significant impact. Wayne Player, son of Gary Player, also struggled to establish himself on tour.

Yet there have been rare success stories: Kevin Tway, son of PGA Champion Bob Tway, won on the PGA TOUR in 2018. Davis Love IV, son of Hall of Famer Davis Love III, continues to pursue a professional career. Bill Haas, son of Jay Haas, won six PGA TOUR events, including the 2011 Tour Championship. But the spotlight rarely dims for those with famous surnames.
