David D’Souza of Bengaluru, a former India international, won the overall senior title at Zion Hills Golf Club in Bangalore with solid rounds of 74-74-72 (4-over 220) for a huge margin of victory.
The event is part of a new 4 event series launched by IGU to help Indian golfers prepare for the Asia Pacific Seniors and Mid-Amateur championships to be held during October / November this year and featured more than 45 mid-amateur and senior golfers competing over three rounds, with the senior field split into three age categories: 55–59 (Senior A), 60–64 (Senior B), and 65+ (Senior C).
Defending champion Gaurav Ghosh of Kolkata, former course captain at Royal Calcutta Golf Club, finished runner-up at 19-over 235 after rounds of 82-77-76 after tying with Asia Pacific Seniors Champion Sandeep Sandhu from Chandigarh. A year ago, Ghosh had set the benchmark with a 1-under 215 total (70-75-70), the lowest winning score in the senior division, beating D’Souza by five.
In the Senior C category (65+), Delhi’s Gangesh Khaitan, 73 years old, claimed a comfortable 11-shot win with rounds of 78-91-78.
In the mid-amateur division (35–50), Maharashtra’s Raj Randhawa, a former PGTI professional who regained amateur status, delivered one of the steadiest performances of the week. His three rounds of 72-72-72 (even-par 216) secured a seven-shot victory.
Defending mid-amateur champion Ranjit Singh, son of double Asian Games gold medallist Bunny Lakshman Singh, did not compete this year.
The next IGU Seniors event will be played at Jaypee Wishtown Golf Course, Noida from May 11-14, in seriously hot conditions that seniors will find hard to endure.
