Arjun Prasad was the only Indian in the Top-10 at tied-6th

The European Challenge Tour’s annual US$300,000 Delhi Challenge at Classic Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, held from March 20-23, followed the trend from last week’s Kolkata Challenge at RCGC in Kolkata, with only one Indian making the top 10. Delhi’s Arjun Prasad secured a tied-sixth finish at 15-under 273 with consistent rounds of 68-68-70-67.

The event, co-sanctioned by what is now called the HotelPlanner Tour, and PGTI, saw Spain’s 25-year-old Quim Vidal outduel England’s 19-year-old Joshua Berry in a dramatic playoff. Vidal (65-68-66-71) and Berry (69-66-67-68), the previous week’s winner in Kolkata, finished regulation play tied at 18-under 270. Vidal forced a playoff with a dramatic 30-foot eagle putt on the 18th and then sealed victory with a birdie on the third playoff hole, while Berry missed his chance.

Among the other Indians in the Top 20, 2-time Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan finished tied-11th at 13-under 275. Youngsters Harshjeet Sethie and Kshitij Naveed Kaul, both of whom play at Delhi Golf Club, secured tied-15th positions at 12-under 276.

With these two consecutive European Challenge Tour events wrapped up, attention now shifts to the Indian Golf Union’s $2.25 million Hero Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club this week. A strong Indian contingent of 30 players will compete alongside the Europeans, including last year’s runner-up Veer Ahlawat, local favourite Shubhankar Sharma, and two-time Indian Open champion SSP Chawrasia. Chawrasia is 1 of only 3 players in tournament history to win back-to-back titles (2016-17), and has also finished runner-up four times. He is joined by the last 2 champions – Keita Nakajima of Japan (2024) and Marcel Siem of Germany (2023).

The 138-player field features several recent winners, including Richard Mansell (Porsche Singapore Classic) and Berry, who earned his Indian Open berth with his Kolkata Challenge victory. Five players with DP World Tour wins in 2025 are also in contention: Mansell, Callum Hill (Joburg Open), John Parry (Mauritius Open), Johannes Veerman (Nedbank Golf Challenge), and Ryggs Johnston (ISPS Handa Australian Open). Four of the current Top 10 in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings—Parry (3rd), Daniel Hillier (5th), Veerman (9th), and Mansell (10th)—will also compete, along with 12 winners from the 2024 DP World Tour season.

The Hero Indian Open promises a highly competitive field and an opportunity for Indian players to shine on home soil.
