Delhi’s Raghav savours US College success

Former No.1 Junior in India now plays for Rice University in the US
 Raghav Chugh has tasted success in US college golf

Raghav Chugh, the former No.1 ranked junior and amateur golfer in India, who joined the golf team at Rice University in Texas last September, was named the Area Men’s Golf Freshman (1st year student)  of the Year. 

Chugh led his team with a 72.52 stroke average, the sixth-best since 1991 and the lowest by a freshman in that time. He also recorded a team-best 15 rounds of par or better, becoming the ninth golfer with at least 15 rounds of par or better in a season since 1991.

The New Delhi, India native was Rice’s top finisher in 10 of 12 events, including the last eight. He recorded three top-five, six top-10 and seven top-20 finishes. He earned medalist honours at the Sam Houston Dual Match, firing a two-under par 70. His best tournament finish was a tie for third-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate, earning him C-USA Golfer of the Week honours.

In July 2019, Chugh tasted success at the US Kids – Teen World Championship at Pinehurst in North Carolina with scores of 68,73,and 75. He also won the Taiwan Junior and Thailand Junior events.
