Diksha during her post-round interview at Tenerife Women’s Open
Arjuna Awardee Diksha Dagar of Delhi is firmly in contention for her first win of the season on the Ladies European Tour (LET) as she heads into the weekend tied for 3rd place at the €500,000 Tenerife Women’s Open, being played at Abama Golf in the Canary Islands from June 5–8.
The 24-year-old, who was also runner-up in Morocco earlier this year, followed up her opening-round 2-under 70 with a solid 3-under 69 on Friday to reach 5-under 139 for two rounds. She is tied for third with six others, four shots behind leader Lauren Walsh of Ireland at 9-under 135. Shannon Tan of Singapore is currently second at 7-under 137.
Diksha, currently ranked 8th in the LET’s Rankings, is having a strong season, with seven cuts made in nine starts and four Top-10 finishes so far.
Of the five Indians in the field, only two advanced to the weekend. Bangalore’s 18-year-old Avani Prashanth, playing her rookie season on the LET, made the cut with rounds of 71-75 to sit at 2-over 146 in a tie for 43rd. Avani is currently ranked 39th in the Rankings and is the second-highest placed Indian behind Diksha.
The remaining three Indians—Hitaashee Bakshi, Tvesa Malik, and Sneha Singh—missed the cut. Gurgaon-based Hitaashee Bakshi, ranked India No.1 in 2024, had posted promising finishes of T-12 at the Dutch Ladies Open and T-34 at Jabra Ladies Open in her previous starts, but missed the cut by just one stroke with a 4-over 148. Tvesa, who has relocated to Dubai, also exited at the same total with rounds of 73-75 and has made just two cuts in six starts this year. 2023 HWPGT No. 1 Sneha Singh of Hyderabad, making her first LET appearance of the season, having had to wait in India for a few weeks to get her visa, struggled with rounds of 77-79 to finish at 12-over 156 and tied-119th.
With the LET’s return to the Spanish island of Tenerife for the first time since 2011, the par-71 Abama Golf Course has posed a stiff test with its undulating fairways and quick greens, but Diksha has handled the challenge well so far.
