Rory McIlroy welcomed at his hotel

Golf fans across India are in for a historic week as Rory McIlroy, the five-time major champion and reigning Masters winner, tees it up for the first time on Indian soil at the US$4 million DP World India Championship, scheduled from October 16–19 at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC).

McIlroy’s appearance headlines the strongest field ever assembled for a professional tournament in India. He will be joined by fellow Ryder Cup teammates Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, and Captain Luke Donald, fresh off Europe’s back-to-back Ryder Cup triumphs. Adding to the mix is Ben Griffin, who made his Ryder Cup debut for Team USA at Bethpage Black last month and former Open Champion, the left handed Brian Harman.

A historic venue, reimagined for the modern game

The Delhi Golf Club, a heritage venue that traces its roots to the 1930s, will host its first DP World Tour event in nearly a decade. The championship layout was redesigned in 2019 by Gary Player Design, transforming the Lodhi Course into a modern test while preserving its classic charm.

Key upgrades included larger MiniVerde Bermuda greens, strategically reshaped fairway bunkers, refined contouring, and a state-of-the-art irrigation system, all designed to elevate playability and sustainability.

India welcomes golf’s global elite

With its largest-ever DP World Tour purse on Indian soil, the tournament marks a milestone for the sport’s growth in the region. Fans can expect a rare spectacle as McIlroy — known for his powerful drives and artistry around the greens — competes against some of the best players from both sides of the Atlantic on Delhi’s iconic fairways.

The DP World India Championship not only celebrates the arrival of world-class golf to the subcontinent but also underlines India’s growing importance on the global golf calendar. As the countdown begins, all eyes will be on Rory McIlroy and a field that blends European pedigree, Ryder Cup flair, and a touch of Indian golf heritage.
