The DP World Tour’s European Swing concluded with the $2.75 million BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried from July 3-6, but it was another frustrating chapter for the two Indians on Tour, in a season marked by persistent struggles.
Shubhankar Sharma, a two-time winner on the European Tour and now in his eighth full season, has made only 4 cuts in 15 starts this year, his poorest showing for a few years in Europe.
Joining him was Gurgaon’s 29-year-old rookie Veer Ahlawat who is yet to make a mark in Europe.
Both Indians recorded identical scores of 74-68 to finish at 2-under 142— agonisingly one shot outside the cutline set at 1-under 141. The six-stroke improvement by both players in the second round was commendable but ultimately not enough to extend their stay into the weekend.
Meanwhile, the tournament belonged to England’s 30-year-old Dan Brown, who secured his second DP World Tour victory with an emotional two-shot triumph, dedicating his win to a close friend who had passed away just a few days earlier.
The Closing Swing
Attention now turns to the season’s high-stakes Closing Swing of the DP World European Tour, with the second Rolex Series event – the $9 million Genesis Scottish Open kicking off this week starring Rory Mcilroy, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and other stars, followed by The Open Championship, the week after.
