Shubhankar Sharma ended a streak of missed cuts at St. Andrews
India’s lone flag bearer in Europe, Shubhankar Sharma ended an unprecedented disappointing run of 17 consecutive missed cuts this year in Europe by finishing tied-61st at the US$5 million Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, played in a pro-am format on several different courses at the home of golf – St Andrews. The 29-year-old carded rounds of 68-72-71 (5-under 211) in the weather-shortened 54-hole event played across the iconic Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns Golf Links.
The event, often called golf’s most glamorous pro-am, pairs professionals with celebrities and business leaders. This year’s field included Hollywood stars Bill Murray, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, sports legends Wayne Gretzky ( ice hockey legend) and Sir Andy Murray ( Tennis Legend), and former cricketers Kevin Pietersen, Michael Vaughan, Mark Nicholas, and Allan Lamb.
In the individual event, Ryder Cup hero, left handed Scotsman, Robert MacIntyre delighted home fans with a wire-to-wire victory, shooting 66-66-66 (18-under 198) to clinch his second DP World Tour title.
Will this made cut help Shubhankar regain what is sure to be shattered self-confidence, at home when he returns to India in two weeks for the US$4 million DP World India Championship at Delhi GC, a course which he is very familiar with ?
Fans look forward to seeing a desperately needed return to form on his home turf.
