FedEx Playoffs – Bhatia Qualifies for Tour Championship

Akshay Bhatia, 23, the Indian-American phenom, already a two-time PGA Tour winner , finished 26th at the penultimate event of the year – the US$20 million BMW Championship, and qualified for the season-ending US$40 million FedEx Cup Tour Championship.

His highlight came in Round 3, with an ace at the par-3 17th which earned him a BMW iX M70 and triggered a US$125,000 donation from BMW to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which funds scholarships for caddies.

 

Starting the week ranked 29th, and needing to stay in the top 30, it was a make-or-break test for Bhatia, who held on under pressure. After his round, he revealed he plans to give the car to his sister, who has a child with special needs.
