IGU Amateur circuit continues to search for India’s next generation

Vinamra Anand starts his 2026 campaign with a win in Chandigarh

The IGU Amateur circuit which consists of 14 events of 72 holes each open to India’s top male amateur golfers and is used to identify teams to represent India at international events like the World and Asian Amateur Championships, saw the hitherto unheralded Vinamra Anand of Noida, who finished the 2025 season ranked 22nd on the Indian Golf Union (IGU) rankings, signal that he has raised his game to a new level as he completed a commanding week at Chandigarh Golf Club to win the IGU Samarvir Sahi Amateur Golf Championship 2026 with a four round total of 9 under 279.

The Uttar Pradesh golfer led from the opening day with 69 and then added 67, 73 and 70 to go wire to wire.

Last year, Vinamra competed in 14 ranked events and recorded his best as a  third place finish at the IGU Eastern India Amateur Championship in December. In 2024, his standout result was a victory at the IGU Delhi State NCR Cup in March, followed by a runner up finish at the Northern India Amateur Championship in August after a playoff loss.

Kanav Chauhan was 2nd at 285 while Chandigarh’s Ram Singh Mann was at 286 in 3rd place.

Maharashtra’s Shamit Dakhane moved up the leaderboard with rounds of 78-70-72-71 to finish fourth at 291.

Played from February 24 to 27, the championship once again honoured the memory of Samarvir Singh Sahi, a former national amateur who passed away suddenly in his youth.
