The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has announced there will be no selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games, and the Indian team will be picked solely on world golf rankings, as laid out in its published selection policy.
In a strong advisory issued amid an escalating factional dispute, the IGU asked players to refrain from believing claims or communications from an unauthorised rival group, specifically the faction led by Harish Shetty. The Union said only official communication from the recognised IGU office in New Delhi should be acted upon.
India’s leading golfers — including Shubhankar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar — have found themselves caught between competing claims of authority over Asian Games entries for the event scheduled in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan.
The IGU added that its status has been upheld by the Delhi High Court and cautioned that any parallel or unauthorised selection process would be invalid.
