The Indian Golf Union (IGU), the apex body for amateur golf in India, which previously hosted only one event each year for mid-amateurs and senior players, has now announced a four-event series that will count towards selection for the Indian teams for the Asia Pacifc Seniors (above age 55) and Asia Pacific Mid-Amateur Championships.
The APGC Mid-Amateur Championship is a new addition to the Asia-Pacific calendar and aims to fill a critical competitive gap by providing international opportunities for amateur golfers aged 25 and above.
While the selection of teams based on a series of events is a positive step, the downside of the new tour is that it is being played during peak summer season and weather conditions are expected to be a huge deterrent to participation, especially for senior amateur golfers over age 55.
