IGU & R&A hold golf development seminar

Brijinder Singh, IGU President at a seminar with the R&A on Golf Development in India

Recognizing India’s potential for golf development, the world’s governing body for golf, the R&A and the Indian Golf Union convened a full day seminar last week in Gurgaon, coinciding with the Hero Indian Open. Led by Brijinder Singh, IGU President, R&A’s Jerome NG, head of Golf Development in Asia Pacific and Neal Graham – Head of Golf Development for Middle East & India, the seminar engaged IGU leadership and State Golf Associations ( SGA’s)  to address challenges facing Indian golf.

Discussions encompassed the IGU’s mission, analysis of the current Indian golf landscape, governance, grassroots development, and global competitiveness. Attendees emphasised the importance of nurturing Indian talent and explored financial opportunities for the IGU through merchandising, corporate partnerships, and golf tourism.

Case studies from other successful National Federations, the counterparts of the IGU, provided important and relevant models for development. Various representatives of State Golf Associations were in attendance who had travelled from around the country to learn and offer inputs. The seminar concluded with a clearer direction for golf’s advancement in India and now the challenge remains of execution and making progress towards those goals.
