The 45th Queen Sirikit Cup commences today, from May 13-16, at the Tom Watson Golf Course in Miyazaki, Japan

India’s national women’s amateur team teed off today at the 45th Queen Sirikit Cup, officially known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship, being held at the Tom Watson Golf Course, Japan from May 13-16.

The Indian squad features 18-year-old Mannat Brar from Pune, Chandigarh’s Heena Kang, and 16-year-old Zara Anand from Noida. The team is led by Vandana Agarwal, who has been appointed as the non-playing captain by the IGU.

While this marks Mannat’s Queen Sirikit Cup debut, both Heena and Zara return for their second consecutive appearances. Last year, Zara was the best-placed Indian with a Tied-12th finish, while Heena placed 32nd. The third member of last year’s team was 19-year-old Vidhatri Urs of Mysore, who has since turned professional.

India’s best-ever performance at the Queen Sirikit Cup came in 2023, when Bangalore’s Avani Prashanth became the first and only Indian to win the Individual Championship, by a commanding 10-stroke margin. She also led the Indian team to a runner-up finish, marking the country’s top-most result in tournament history—surpassing the previous best of fourth. She has since turned professional and is currently competing in her Rookie season on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The Queen Sirikit Cup, launched in 1979, brings together teams of three elite amateurs from 14 Asia-Pacific countries, competing over 72 holes of stroke play, with the best two scores each day counting towards the team total. It is regarded as the most prestigious team competition in women’s amateur golf across the region and has historically served as a stepping stone for many of Asia’s leading professionals. This year, 13 teams are competing.
