Cameron Smith is expected to join LIV GOLF  after the FedEx Cup

As per reports from TheTelegraph , recently crowned British Open champion, Cameron Smith of Australia, has signed with LIV GOLF for US$ 100mn. Smith, 28, currently 2nd in the world rankings would represent a major coup for LIV, which has managed so far to attract mostly big names over age 40 whose best days are behind them. Smith would give them an upcoming genuine star who is in his prime, along with big draws Bryson De Chambeau and Brooks Koepka etc, raising the quality of the LIV field.

Reportedly, Smith will join LIV GOLF after the PGA Tour’s lucrative Fedex Cup playoffs which start this week. It remains to be seen if he delays his announcement to after the USA v Rest of the World Presidents Cup in late September, something he has said he is looking forward to doing.

The Telegraph article followed on the heels of Australian pro Cameron Percy telling the hosts of an Australian radio program that both Smith and another Aussie Marc Leishman  were heading to LIV.  “Unfortunate, yeah, they’re gone,” he said, sparking a media furor and eliciting a phone call from Andy Pazder, PGA Tour chief tournaments and competitions officer. Later, speaking to Australian Golf Digest, Percy said, “Look, I was just conveying what was said in the locker room during the many rain delays we’ve had on tour the past few weeks.”

During the press conference ahead of the first Fedex Cup playoff event this week, the St. Jude Invitational, Smith, did not deny the rumours were true, choosing to deflect instead. “My goal here is to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs,” he said. “That’s all I’m here for. If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy. I’m a man of my word and whenever you guys need to know anything, it’ll be said by me.”
