Khalin Joshi in action at Singapore International

Khalin Joshi, the 29-year-old Bengaluru golfer, shot 67-74-75-76 (4-over 292) to finish tied-8th at the US$ 1mn The Singapore International at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines Course. Joshi earned US$ 19,600 (14.5 lacs) for his efforts.

Joshi led the event on day one after shooting a superb 5-under 67 on Thursday and was still in second after a two-over 74 on Friday. However a poor weekend, where he was a combined 7-over par, cost him a shot at winning his second Asian tour event.  The tournament cut at +8 after 36 holes was one of the highest ever on the tour and was due to the extremely windy conditions prevailing on the already challenging course.

The tournament was won by Joohyung Kim, the 19-year-old from South Korea, who beat Thailand’s Rattanon Wannasrichan in a playoff.Another Bangalorean, Chikkarangappa S, was in third place going into Sunday’s final round but shot 82 largely because of a nightmarish nine on the par-3 16th, which pushed him all the way down to a tie for 39th at 9-over 297.

Viraj Madappa was the second-best Indian finisher at tied-21st with 77-71-76-70 (6-over 294), followed by Rashid Khan and Abhijit Chadha who tied for 24th at 7-over 295.

Asian Tour winner’s Shubhankar Sharma and veteran Shiv Kapur shared the tied-46th spot with 10-over 298. Ajeetesh Sandhu withdrew after an 80 in the third round.
