Aditi Ashok opened her LPGA season with a strong tied third finish at the Blue Bay LPGA Championship in China.
The 27 year old, ranked 169th in the world, carded rounds of 68, 70, 70 and 72 to finish at 8 under 280, three shots behind South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee, who won at 11 under 277.
The result marks Ashok’s second best finish on the LPGA Tour and came in her first start of the season after missing the opening three events.
Ashok briefly slipped with three successive bogeys from the seventh to ninth holes in the final round, but steadied herself with a composed back nine.
“I think it takes a lot of patience to play in the wind,” Ashok said. “Even if you’re playing well, some holes you just can’t attack. You have to take the chances that you get and make those birdie putts count.”
Last season, Ashok played 20 events on the LPGA Tour, making 12 cuts. Her best result was a sixth place finish at the Standard Portland Classic in August. She ended the season 75th on the LPGA standings, earning US$344,000 (approximately ₹3 crore) in prize money.
