Ganne’s historic win at U.S. Women’s Am

Indian-origin Megha Ganne, 21, a third-year Stanford University student from New Jersey, and ranked 11th on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), made history by becoming the first Indian origin girl to win the prestigious U.S. Women’s Amateur title at Oregon’s famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, winning by a margin of 4&3 in the final.

A former AJGA Rolex Player of the Year, two-time American All-Star Amateur team member in the Curtis Cup that plays against Europe (2021, 2022), and low amateur at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open (T-14), Ganne was the No. 1 junior in the U.S. before college. Choosing Stanford over turning pro early, she has now claimed the biggest win of her amateur career.

Seeded 11th after stroke play, Ganne defeated Kaleiya Romero (2&1), Anna Davis (3&2), Kary Hollenbaugh (2&1), and Eila Galitsky (2&1) before producing a remarkable semifinal comeback from 4-down to beat Australia’s Ella Scaysbrook in 19 holes.

The win earns her the Robert Cox Trophy, a 2026 U.S. Women’s Open exemption, a place on the 2026 USA Curtis Cup team, likely invites to the Chevron Championship, AIG Women’s Open, and Amundi Evian Championship, and 10 years of exemptions into the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

It marks Stanford’s sixth U.S. Women’s Amateur title and third major amateur title this summer, underscoring the program’s dominance. Ganne has played 11 ranked events in 2025 with one win and five other top-10s.

In 2021, IGW Editor-in-Chief Rishi Narain interviewed Ganne on our YouTube channel about her U.S. Women’s Open debut and career plans for the benefit of over 100 Indian junior golfers and their parents — watch it here.
