Mysore GC backs its successful junior program

Mysore Golf Course’s long-running 45 day long annual junior program which started in 2000 has got underway yet again this summer with 45 selected students participating. The program has produced such talents as pros Pranavi Urs, Yashash Chandra and Aalaap Il.

IGU referee Paramjit Singh (Centre) has been associated with the program since its inception in 2000

Significantly, juniors who attend the camp are mostly children of non-golfers. They begin their training with putting and chipping before slowly moving to other aspects of the game, divided into batches of 15 each and coached by club professionals Sudarshan, Ravi, Peter, and Anand.

The club does not have a dedicated space as a practice range, but it closes three holes for about three hours everyday so the children can practice and play.

Children of club members can become members of the club at a heavily discounted fee while non-members’ children can get a student membership that lasts until they are 21, after which they are eligible to become regular members.
