Former PGA TOUR winner Wesley Bryan of USA, who is a popular youtube content creator as well, has been suspended by the PGA TOUR for taking part in a LIV Golf-affiliated influencer event.
The 35-year-old had played in “The Duels: Miami”, an exhibition hosted at LIV Golf’s Miami stop the week before the Masters. The event, aired on YouTube via content creator Grant Horvat’s channel, paired six LIV professionals with six social media golf influencers in a nine-hole scramble format. The match offered a $250,000 purse, and the winning duo was Sergio Garcia and George Bryan, Wesley’s brother.
The PGA TOUR has maintained that members will face suspensions if they compete in LIV Golf events, citing its standing opposition to the Saudi-backed league. Though Bryan currently holds conditional PGA Tour status, his appearance at this event was treated as a breach of policy. Bryan had also been reportedly warned in advance not to participate.
Wesley has played 134 PGA TOUR events, with his lone win coming at the 2017 RBC Heritage. He has also won three Korn Ferry Tour titles in 22 starts and has amassed over $5 million in career earnings. However, injuries and inconsistency—particularly with the driver—have derailed his performance in recent years. He has not finished better than 156th in the FedEx Cup standings since his rookie season.
As playing opportunities dwindled, Bryan increasingly shifted towards content creation. Together with George Bryan, he runs the popular Bryan Bros Golf YouTube channel, known for trick shots and golf challenges. Their crossover success has led to participation in PGA TOUR-backed influencer events, including the Creator Classic at TPC Sawgrass during Players Championship week.
Notably, Wesley and George were both part of the PGA TOUR’s Creator Council, a content initiative launched to engage new audiences via social media creators. Bryan’s involvement in LIV’s content-led event presents an ironic twist, given his parallel role in the PGA Tour’s own fan outreach programmes.
Bryan was not informed about the duration of the suspension but intends to follow the appeal process: “For the last eight or nine years, the opportunities have been amazing on the PGA TOUR,” Bryan said. “I’m extremely grateful to the Tour for that. I don’t want this to be the end of my professional golf career.”
This suspension comes as the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) remain at an impasse over a possible reunification. Talks earlier this year reportedly broke down over several sticking points:
- The introduction of a team format on the PGA Tour
- Governance structure, particularly the role of PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan
- The assimilation of LIV Golf defectors back into the PGA Tour ecosystem
Earlier this month, the PGA Tour rejected a $1.5 billion investment offer from PIF, further delaying any potential resolution between the rival circuits.
Meanwhile, the incident highlights growing complexity around content creators and tour policies. Despite the suspension of Bryan, Grant Horvat—who hosted the LIV event—has reportedly received an invitation to compete in the 2025 Barracuda Championship, a PGA TOUR event, underscoring inconsistencies in how participation is handled.
