
Gurgaon’s Veer Ahlawat is now a two-time winner on the PGTI
Tall, big hitting 26 year old Veer Ahlawat of Gurgaon continued a strong showing this season with his second professional victory at the Pune Open, which pushed him upto 11th in the domestic rankings. Delhi’s Kapil Kumar finished second.
Ahlawat, entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Kapil Kumar and with birdies on 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th holes comfortably took the title.
“My last win as a pro was three years back ( Digboi, 2019) and ever since I came close but could never finish it off. This win today makes me and my team very happy that our hard work has paid off. I am very satisfied with my short game and my chipping specifically, and that I think, played a critical role in my performance today,” said Veer Ahlawat.
Yashas Chandra , Thangaraja of Sri Lanka, Gurgaon’s Manu Gandas, a three-time winner this season and Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan rounded out the top 5.
*The tournament was played on 17 holes as par-66 due to heavy rains and waterlogging. Hole No. 5 was reduced from a Par-4 to a Par-3 and Hole No. 6 was not played.
