Rajasthan Regals created history in Indian professional golf by winning the inaugural DP World PGTI’s 72 The League powered by IndusInd Bank with a commanding 12–3 victory over UP Prometheans at Qutab Golf Course on Friday.
The Regals had qualified for the final as the second placed team after the five round league stage and avenged their earlier 4–10 defeat to the Prometheans in the final league match.
The champions received the Vibhor Sogani designed 72 The League Trophy along with prize money of INR 1 crore, while the runners up collected INR 50 lakh.
UP Prometheans fielded unbeaten captain Shaurya Bhattacharya and Arjun Prasad in the opening singles, but Rajasthan quickly seized control as Jairaj Singh Sandhu beat Bhattacharya 4 and 3 and Akshay Sharma defeated Prasad 2 and 1.
The Regals sealed the title when the pairing of Aryaman Mohan and Yuvraj Singh beat Joshua Seale and Arjun Sharma on the 18th hole, with Mohan holing the decisive putt.
Captain Ajeetesh Sandhu credited the team’s chemistry for the victory.
“From the moment of the auction, I knew we had depth in the team. Everyone gelled well and the chemistry was fantastic,” Sandhu said.
Charminar Champions finished third after winning the Plate Championship ahead of Kolkata Classics.
