
Mumbai – a city which has struggled to produce champion players owing to dearth of courses and lack of practice facilities has recently seen the Willingdon and BPGC Opens trying to revive competitive golf culture in the metropolis.
At this year’s Willingdon Open, Ahaan Nath, held off the seasoned Jamsheed Mehta to win a tense three-hole play-off and lift the trophy instituted in memory of Late Shri Chandrahas Thackersey..
More than 160 golfers from across Western India competed over two days on February 21 and 22, with the championship going down to the wire.
Across categories, there were notable performances. The father-son duo of Chakor Doshi and Chirag Doshi claimed the Seniors title and the Handicap 11 to 15 category respectively. In the Handicap 16 to 21 division, Anuj Bhasme edged past Manish Aggarwal on countback after finishing tied over 36 holes.
Anjali Gaekwar won the Ladies prize, with Darshika Kapadia Ajoomal finishing second.
The best gross round of the tournament came from former India international Amish Jaitha, who carded a one under par round on the opening day.
