Well-known coach Harmeet Kahlon has moved to Canada
In a development that underlines both his enduring passion and Indian golf’s coaching challenges, Chandigarh’s Harmeet Kahlon, 55, Arjuna Awardee (1997) and former Asian Tour winner, has shifted base to Canada but plans to spend 3–4 months each winter back in India.
Kahlon, who has been one of the most active coaches in Chandigarh for over 15 years, recently underlined his continuing playing ability by winning a local Seniors Championship conducted by the PGA of Alberta in Calgary with rounds of 66-68. He is now a PGA of Canada member and coaches at Broadmoor Golf Course in Alberta.
His move highlights the lack of structured recognition and reward for India’s top coaches. With Indian golf already facing an acute shortage of world-class coaching, Kahlon’s semi-relocation is a wake-up call for stakeholders to create a proper professional ecosystem that incentivises former champions to remain active in the country.
One of India’s most decorated amateurs, Kahlon remains the only Indian to have won the Nomura Cup Asia-Pacific Amateur. He is also the only Indian to claim titles at the Singapore Amateur, Pakistan Amateur, All India Amateur, and SAARC Championships.
