PGTI’s NEXGEN is a platform for players who missed out on qualifying for the main tour

The PGTI has revived their 2nd tier tour for players who have been unable to qualify for the main PGTI Tour and renamed it with a more forward looking name – NEXGEN.

Chandigarh’s Amrit Lal, 25, claimed victory at the PGTI NEXGEN 2025 hosted by Patna Golf Club, beating Sanjeev Kumar (Lucknow) and Lakshya Nagar (Noida) in a tense playoff.

Amrit (70-70-74) finished tied with Sanjeev (72-70-72) and Lakshya (68-72-74) at 2-under 214. Lakshya dropped out with a bogey on the first extra hole, before Amrit’s steady par on the second sealed the win over Sanjeev.

The win earned him ₹2.54 lakh and moved him up 13 spots to 4th on the NEXGEN Order of Merit. Lucknow’s Rajesh Kumar Gautam, T-9 this week, continues to lead the rankings.

“This week all parts of my game were sharp. Importantly, I stayed mentally strong in the playoff,” Amrit said. He added that making the cut on the main tour recently gave him confidence after recovering from a nagging thumb injury, crediting Dr. Vishal Gautam and his fitness coach Sagar Diwan for the support.

Amrit, whose previous best was a fourth-place finish, now looks set for a breakthrough season.
