With more than 37 years in professional golf, Indrajit Bhalotia now makes history as Captain of RCGC
In a landmark move in the evolution of Indian golf, Kolkata’s Indrajit Bhalotia has become the first professional golfer in India to be elected Captain of a major club, taking charge at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC). While Chandigarh GC and Delhi GC have had professionals serve on their committees, this is the first time a pro has been elected as Captain.
Bhalotia, 54, turned professional in 1988 at the age of 17, and went on to win five titles on the Indian Tour.
Over the years, he has been deeply involved at RCGC through various committee roles and has actively promoted junior and amateur golf in Kolkata through his company, Protouch Sports Pvt Ltd, which conducts junior events and grassroots programmes.
This election marks a landmark moment, bringing professional playing experience directly into club leadership at one of India’s most historic golf institutions.
