LIV Golf’s scheduled US$30 million prize money event in New Orleans later this June has been postponed as the league is rumoured to be looking to secure additional funding.
The tournament was set for June 25–28 at Bayou Oaks in Louisiana, with officials now exploring alternative dates later in the year.
The move comes amid uncertainty over LIV Golf’s long-term funding structure, following reports that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund may scale back its commitment beyond the current season. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has maintained that the 2026 season will continue as planned.
The development could have wider implications for Asia. LIV Golf has been a key financial driver behind the Asian Tour’s International Series, which with 8 events of US$2 million prize money in 2026 has created significant playing opportunities and pathways for Asian professionals.
Any disruption to the funding of the International Series could impact the Asian Tour critically as the 2026 schedule shows only 9 events all year outside the 8 International Series events.
Can the tour survive the loss of the series ?
Any serious decline in the Asian Tour will affect the newly launched Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), which has been attracting players based on providing a pathway into the Asian Tour system.
For Asian professional golf, the situation bears close watching. A sustained shift in funding could tighten playing opportunities at a critical time for the region.
