BENGALURU

Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) Premier League 2019

KGA Committee unveils the “ KGA Premier League 2019” Trophy

The KGA Premier League is a first-of-its kind amateur intra-club league in South India which saw its inaugural edition
in 2019.
A total of 20 teams — consisting of 18 players each, making up a field of 360 players are contesting the league.
Each team is owned by a corporate or professional and is constituted through a combination of a draft and auction process. This process was conducted by club member Mr Charu Sharma in an exciting function where team owners ‘bought’ some of their players with notional money in an auction. The remaining players were selected by lot in the draft process.
The format of the competition is a three round qualifier followed by the final round in which the top 8 teams after the first three rounds will qualify.
Almost all the top amateur players in Bangalore participate in this marquee event. The unique feature of the tournament is that each team fields players from all handicap categories, making it an extremely inclusive format.
The KGA Premier League has created a huge buzz not only in Bangalore but all over the country with the support of its title sponsor — IPI Yamaha and the co-sponsors — Radisson Blue, Honma, and
Vaishnavi Group.
The first and second rounds have been completed. and the third round is slated to be played on December 6 and 7. This round is bound to be a keenly contested affair, as it will determine the 8 qualifying teams for the grand finale on 21 December.
KGA is confident that this tournament is here to stay and that it will be the most sought-after event at Bangalore’s golfing calendar in years to come.

MUMBAI

A generous initiative

Sanchita Pant, aged 15, Grade 10 student of Oberoi International School, Mumbai is a National sailor & has represented the country in many international regattas and currently is — India Head, Chance for Sports — on a journey to help others achieve their dreams. Recently she has started an initiative, ‘Caddies Dream To Play’, to collect gently used golf equipment for caddies. Through this, she was successful in collecting over 307 golf items — clubs, t-shirts, caps, bags, and shoes — for the top 25 playing caddies. These items were handed over to them on September 22 at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC), Mumbai.
Sanchita says, “The support came not just from all over India but even from Singapore and that’s what makes me feel even more positive about the initiative. I wish to continue making a deeper impact on caddies’ lives by extending this initiative to other clubs across the nation.”
After hearing, the words “Aapke diya hua golf equipment meri zindagi badal dega” from Krishna Das — an old timer at BPGC — she is on a mission to help caddies emerge from their poverty and to encourage them to pursue their dreams of turning pro or of becoming professional caddies.
