15-year-old Avani Prashanth of Bangalore shot 2-under 214 to win her second pro title by one stroke over seasoned Chandigarh pro Amandeep Drall at the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour (Hero WPGT) event at Panchkula Golf Club.
Avani who bounced back in Rd 2 with a women’s course record 6 under 66 after a mediocre 76 on Day 1 started her final round with a one-stroke lead over Amandeep. Both ended with identical 72’s in the final round and Avani prevailed by one stroke. Drall’s one double bogey and three bogeys in the final round prevented her from overhauling a steady Avani who had one birdie and one bogey on a blemish free card.
In her first win, in Feb. 2021, Avani had also defeated Drall at Bombay Presidency Golf Club.
Avani, a Greenwood High student in Bangalore has been trained by Laurence Brotheridge of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
The 5 ft 6 inch tall slender Avani boasts a 260 yard carry on her drive and is now going to compete with Asia’s best amateur players in Abu Dhabi at the Asia Pacific Women’s Amateur, where the winner gets invited to the Augusta Women’s Amateur played just before The Masters event.
Since the age of six, Avani has been playing competitive golf and is well travelled, having also played the US Kids Golf World and European Championships. She has appeared in over 100 tournaments across the globe and added over 80 titles to her name. We look forward to seeing her grow from strength to strength.
