73 year old caddy “Fluff” makes history

Senior U.S. Open

When 51-year-old Jim Furyk won the US$ 4mn U.S. Senior Open last week, his 73-year-old caddy “Fluff Cowan” made history considering he was also on Furyk’s bag when he won the 2003 U.S. Open marking a 22 year partnership of the two and has logged in an estimated 20,000 miles walking on Tour during 3900 rounds in 1110 pro tournaments.

Fluff was with Tiger Woods from 1996 to 1999 when he first burst onto the scene. In his 40 year career as a caddy, Fluff has also caddied for the likes of Peter Jacobsen (1978-1996),  Michelle Wie and Fred Couples (Ryder Cup).

Fluff, a multisport athlete at High School in Fairfield played college golf and was an assistant pro at a country club in Maine, where he was inducted into the Maine Golf Hall of Fame in 2005.

At 73, Fluff is currently the oldest regular caddie on the PGA and Senior Tour and the way he still manages to carry a 25 kg Tour pro bag on his shoulders with such ease, is a lesson to consider, as we Indian golfers struggle to pull our bags on trolleys, even for a few hole
