Aditi Ashok bags first-ever medal for India in women’s golf

While the Europeans and Americans were battling away for the Ryder Cup, 26 year old Aditi Ashok was valiantly flying the Indian flag at the Asian Games. Finally, she won the silver medal, a first for any Indian women golfer at the Games and although she was hoping for a better coloured medal, this still represents a huge milestone in the history of golf in our country.

Aditi was absolutely brilliant in the first three rounds shooting 66-67 and a mind numbing 11 under par 61 in round three. However the touch seemed to desert her in the final round as she stumbled to a 77 to finish two strokes behind the gold medallist from Thailand.

The three member Indian girls team of Aditi , Pranavi Urs of Mysore and Avani Prashanth of Hyderabad who were also in contention for a team medal, finished 4th in the end.

The event showed a lot of promise for the Indian girls as they challenged like they never have before. When the young team gets ready four years from now, they could likely be strong contenders again.
