Speedgolf record holder – Lauren Cupp

Speed Golf

36-year-old golf coach Lauren Cupp, the 2018 World Speedgolf Champion, set a world record for women’s Speedgolf by shooting a 1 under 72 over 18 holes in just 50 mins and 48 seconds at a Speedgolf USA Tour series tournament in New York.

Speedgolf is an initiative to combine fitness with golf skill and the player’s score is the sum of their total shots and how many minutes they took to play 18 holes so Cupp’s record performance of 122 broke the previous record of 126 set by Liz McKinnon of New Zealand in 2018.

Speedgolf busts the myth that players need to labour painfully over their shots and reading greens to shoot good scores. Perhaps in India coaches could start with 4 to 6 hole Junior events and gradually build that up.

People who feel regular golf is too slow should try their hand at Speedgolf for fun and realise the challenge it throws at you. Finishing 18 holes in under one hour and being able to post a sub-par round is an accomplishment we can’t say enough about.

In 2018, Lauren Cupp was kind enough to share her winning moments exclusively with us from the World Championship and explain how the game’s faster version is played.

You can revisit her interview here – The Need for Speedhttps://www.indiagolfweekly.com/fitness/need-for-speed-speedgolf/

Lauren Cupp was recently invited to throw out the first pitch at NBT Stadium in New York for her accomplishment.
