Foreigners make presence felt at PGTI Qualifiers

Matias Dominguez dominated the PGTI Qualifier with a total score of 20-under par

In a new development for the domestic circuit – a number of foreign nationals have been attracted by the increased prize money available on the domestic PGTI Tour. In fact foreign nationals claimed the top three spots at the 3rd Pre-Qualifier for PGTI, with 31-year-old Matias Dominguez from Chile securing the top position by firing an all-time low score of 59, finishing with a total score of 15-under par in Jamshedpur.

Among the 31 foreigners participating in Pre-Qualifying III, 11 successfully advanced to the Final Stage.

At the Final Stage, Chilean Matias Dominguez, the Pre-Qualifying III winner, emerged victorious with rounds of 61-70-69-64, securing a seven-shot lead over the field and finishing with a total score of 20-under 264. Subhash Tamang, the All India Amateur Champion from Nepal, finished as joint runner-up, posting rounds of 67-66-71-67 and concluding with a total score of 13-under par.

After 36 holes, 80 players, including 16 foreigners (three exempted based on the 2023 season), representing countries such as Chile, Czechia, Nepal, Canada, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Japan, and the USA, made the cut.

The top 36 players after 72 holes secured an A card, granting them full playing rights, while the remaining 44 will earn a B card with limited entries for the 2024 season.

Canada – Sukhraj Singh Gill

Bangladesh – Md. Samrat Sikdar, Md. Akbar Hossain. Md. Jakiruzzaman Jakir

Korea – Si In Kim

Japan – Makoto Iwasaki

One player each from Chile, Nepal, Czech Republic, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Italy – 

Japan & Sri Lanka made the cut while two Americans and 5 Bangladeshi players were in the fray in the final two rounds.
