Last week’s Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour event played in Gurgaon at Golden Greens GC boasted a record prize fund of Rs 19 lakh, the highest since it started in 2006 and was played over 72 holes, instead of the usual 54.

31-year-old former winner on the Hero WPGT, Amandeep Drall of Panchkula broke the ladies course record with an opening 64 for a 6 shot lead and then carded rounds of 70-73-71 to win by a four-stroke margin at a total score of 10-under 288 over Gaurika Bishnoi, another seasoned player on the tour who shot 70-66-75-71 to finish at 6-under 282.

The tournament saw 40 women golfers participate and enforced a 36-hole cut set at 12-over 156 which 25 players survived.

The expansion to 72 holes by the Hero WPGT might indicate an aim to earn precious world ranking points for its players.

The tour will next week play its sixth leg offering a record prize fund of Rs 25 lakhs at DLF Golf & CC, also in Gurgaon, from March 11-15.
