IGU Team’s No-Show At German Amateur Raises Questions

IGU had put out an official release for the National Squad Camp held in April, but apparently, no team was sent to participate in the German International Amateur

The Indian Golf Union (IGU) had conducted a full-fledged National Camp in mid-April to prepare a 10-man amateur squad for the prestigious German International Amateur Championship scheduled from May 1–4 at the Berliner Golf Club in Berlin. The camp, conducted at Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida from April 14–19, featured a strong line-up and multi-disciplinary focus, but curiously, no Indian team showed up in Germany.

India’s Arin Ahuja, Rakshit Dahiya, and Sukhman Singh were listed in Germany’s confirmed entry list. Yet they did not play.

Despite several inquiries, the IGU has not issued any formal clarification.

The Jaypee Greens camp, which brought together 10 of the country’s top-ranked amateur golfers, was part of the IGU’s ongoing effort to structure a high-performance pathway under the National Squad System. The camp covered technical work, swing analysis, fitness, physiotherapy, nutrition, and sports psychology.

With the exception of Kartik Singh, Indian mens’ performances in overseas amateur events has been shockingly poor in recent years, making every overseas appearance critical for long-term player development and ranking points. In this context, the team’s “no show” stings more.

For now, the unanswered questions persist: Was it a visa issue? A travel hiccup? A late withdrawal? Or an administrative oversight? Whatever the case, we trust the situation will be rectified in future—for the sake of the young players and for the future of Indian golf.
