The Indian Golf Union, seems to have opened a new chapter as the Army takes control of the majority of voting state golf associations in its election conducted on Dec.27th after a two-year delay. Indian golf’s apex body and the organisation which conducts the Indian Open and around 70 plus amateur, ladies and junior tournaments in a normal year, it remains to be seen how the IGU will progress as time goes on. The IGU had to meet the deadline for elections of December 31, 2020, set by the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs by which it has been derecognised from time to time in the past two years for delays in amending its constitution to meet the National Sports Code set out for all National Sports Federations.
With legal cases resolved, IGU has released the new list of office bearers for the 2021-2022 term.

At the time of writing, it is not clear why only ten states are represented in the Governing Council and Office Bearers combined. While Maharashtra and Jharkhand have two representatives each, Delhi has none. State associations of the most important golfing states of Karnataka, Punjab and Haryana are not even recognised by the IGU!
The Haryana State Golf Association, which has leading golf professionals Jyoti Randhawa & Digvijay Singh amongst its committee members and has been actively promoting golf in the state, had submitted an application in December 2018 and despite reminders did not get a response.
